MIAS Mountain Bike Instructor Award - Level 1/2

MIAS Mountain Bike Instructor Award L1/2 (AALA/ABC accredited)

This is an internationally recognised 2 day Instructor course:

Level 1 Outline (Day 2 is held in nearby Surrey Hills)

For instructors to lead groups off road on way marked tracks below 600 meters and within close proximity of aid. Typically; cycle tracks, forestry, parks, canal tow paths.

Candidate requirements: Previous mountain bike experience.

MIAS Cycle FIT Maintenance Award - Levels 1-3

This is a nationally recognised NVQ standard course covering:

Mountain bike anatomy/ Cycle Mechanic Tools/ Puncture Repair/ Chain care & repair/ Adjusting gears & brakes/ Bike cleaning & lubrication/ Replacing gear & brake cables/ Adjusting/replacing brake blocks & disc pads/ (Level 3 Award covers - Headset removal/ replacement, Bottom Bracket Removal & replacement, Wheel truing.

*Candidates that meet the requirement will receive both a Cycle FIT Maintenance Course Logbook to record their ongoing achievements as well as receive a Cycle FIT Maintenance Course certificate to the appropriate level.

MIAS ESCPC – Emergency Services Cycle Patrol Course

A Police only Cycle Patrol Course that is Nationally Accredited.

This also has a NVQ standard through the Awarding Body Consortium at Reading University. Designed for pursuance and protection as well as self efficacy, knowledge & skill based work.

Team event training & individual (one to one) Mountain Bike maintenance - 2 hr / Half / Full day (non accredited)

This is a chance to learn how to fix and maintain your bike in a way that's more participant led. We cover similar topics as the accredited course with the option to focus on specific areas. Individuals & small groups can learn the basics / have a tailored workshop designed for them. Perfect preparation

for team cycling events. A standard course can cover:

Mountain bike anatomy/ Cycle Mechanic Tools/ Puncture Repair/ Chain care & repair/ Adjusting gears & brakes/ Bike cleaning & lubrication/ Replacing gear & brake cables/ Adjusting/replacing brake blocks & disc pads/ Headset removal & replacement/ Bottom Bracket Removal & replacement/ Wheel truing. (Shock repair & Wheel building not covered)

Team event training

 

Team event training – Riding, Skills, & Preparation - 2 hr / Half / Full day (non accredited)

This is a chance for groups entering events, or groups of friends to get together for hands on experience of what to expect from a (long) day out in the saddle through to multi day events. On a full day course we get to look at a full range of disciplines in detail whilst combining a ride / skills work:

 

  • Bike choice (including bike set up)
  • Basic repairs
  • Basic nutrition
  • Training aids and suggestions
  • Skills work and/or guided ride incorporated
